Young Achiever award presented

Date: 27th May, 2022

A Prince’s Trust Team programme participant from Hamworthy has been named as one of this year’s Young Achievers by Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service.

Hannah Pickford received the award in recognition of her personal development and outstanding contribution to the personal development scheme, having taken part last year.

The presentation was made at the Service’s annual awards ceremony, held at Tidworth Garrison Theatre on 12 May. Hannah received her certificate from Cllr Paul Oatway, Vice Chair of the Fire and Rescue Authority, and Mrs Jo Grenfell, Vice Principal Curriculum and Student Services at Wiltshire College & University Centre.

Hannah took part in the Prince’s Trust Team programme in 2021. During the 12 weeks, her confidence grew, to the extent that she successfully applied for an apprenticeship in Weymouth at the end of the course.

The Young Achiever Award this year was sponsored by Wiltshire College, and anyone who has participated in one of the Service’s youth engagement programmes can be nominated. A second presentation, to a Christchurch man also involved with the Prince’s Trust Team programme, will be made at a later date.

Oliver Symons, Deputy Principal Curriculum & Quality at Wiltshire College & University Centre, said: “The College was delighted to be able to support Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service with their annual awards ceremony once again. It was a pleasure to hear the amazing stories of inspiring young people in our community. Congratulations to Hannah and Elliott who are both fully deserving winners. They should be hugely proud of their achievements.”
