Fire in car park – Christchurch

Date: 22nd March, 2021

Time: 03:01

Description: At 03:01 this morning we received a call reporting a fire in a covered car park in Millhams Street, Christchurch. 2 fire engines from Christchurch fire station were mobilised along with 1 from Springbourne. Upon arrival the crew discovered a fire involving stored rubbish and equipment belonging to the council and requested the assistance of a further appliance, and it was reported that there could be rough sleepers located in the car park. This fire engine was mobilised from Red Hill fire station. The fire was eventually extinguished with the help of 6 firefighters wearing breathing apparatus using 3 hose reels. 2 large engine powered fans were also used to help clear the smoke and enable the firefighters to better extinguish the fire. The "stop message", where it is clear that no further resources are going to be required, was passed at 03:46. Fortunately no one was inside the structure who needed rescuing or suffered any injury, although the ambulance service attended the scene as a precaution. The police also attended and along with one of our fire investigation officers is investigating the cause of the fire.
