Charity car wash at Westlea fire station

Date: 28th October, 2019

A charity car wash is being held at Westlea fire station this Saturday (2 November) in aid of the Fire Fighters Charity and the Team GB tap dancing team.

The event will run between 10am and 3pm at the fire station in Stonehill Green, accessed through The Chesters.

The Fire Fighters Charity provides help to serving and retired personnel, their widows/widowers and young dependants through the provision of sheltered accommodation, recuperative facilities, rehabilitation and therapy, as well as giving financial support to those who need it. More information can be found at www.firefighterscharity.org.uk

Swindon-based dance school Tap Attack provides the dancers for Team GB and 2019 is the 12th year that they have competed in the IDO World Tap Championships, held in Germany. The annual competition attracts nearly 1,800 dancers, taking part from more than 19 countries and, to date, Team GB have had tremendous success, winning 36 gold medals, 20 silvers and 24 bronze.

Unlike some of the other countries competing, Team GB receive no external financial support and are totally self-funded. This requires the dancers to rely on support from parents, family and friends to pay for the intensive training required, team kit, travel and accommodation in Germany.

The car wash at Westlea fire station is one of several fundraising events being held to support the team in covering some of the costs required to compete. More information can be found at www.tapattack.co.uk
