Fire Cadets programme due to run in Hamworthy

Date: 15th April, 2019

Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service is looking for young people to join their new Fire Cadets programme in Hamworthy, starting in September 2019.

The aim of Fire Cadets is to support the development of young people by providing positive role models and giving them opportunities to participate in a wide range of practical activities.

The Service is looking to recruit young people between the ages of 13 and 18 to take part in this rewarding training scheme, which will not only be fun and enjoyable but will also give the Cadets the chance to learn new personal and social skills, work towards accredited certificates, learn about the functions and responsibilities of the Fire Service and take part in social action projects in their local community.

The programme, linked to the National Fire Cadet model, is delivered by firefighters and volunteers and lasts for 38 weeks within the academic year of 2019/20. Drills will take place every Monday evening at Hamworthy fire station and will involve an even mix of practical and classroom based theory elements alongside community-based social action projects.

Marianne Gerety, Youth Intervention Coordinator, said: “We welcome applications from anyone aged 13-18 who is keen to learn about the Fire and Rescue Service and wants to develop their personal skills. This will be a great opportunity to take on new challenges, meet new people and gain skills that the Cadets can use in all aspects of life.”

The course is designed to be fun, but it also challenges and develops the participants by getting them to:

It is expected that the programme will gain a lot of interest and therefore there will be an application and interview process.

If this sounds like an opportunity you would like to get involved in, register an expression of interest via email to Marianne Gerety ([email protected]) by Monday 29 April and an application form will be sent to you.
