This year’s Emergency Services Show promises to be fun for all the family – including pet dogs!
Astute Canine Dog Club’s agility team will be running displays on the day, and visitors will be able to ‘have a go’ with their pets as well.
In agility, dogs learn to jump hurdles, run through tunnels, go over obstacles, scale heights and wiggle their way through weaves, while handlers learn to direct dogs over sequences of equipment, how to teach basic obedience and focus, and harness impulsivity and drive –while still having fun.
Animal lovers will also be able to enjoy watching Wiltshire Police’s dog section put through its paces with displays throughout the day.
The Emergency Services Show is being held at Cotswold Airport, off the A429 north of Malmesbury, on Sunday 16 September between 10am and 4pm.
The event is organised by a team of volunteers, mostly drawn from Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service, Wiltshire Police and South Western Ambulance Service. Since 2005, more than £150,000 has been donated to groups that support the work of the emergency services, and the Show committee is now a registered charity in its own right.
Tickets to the Show are now available on-line at a cheaper advance sale price – by visiting www.emergencyservicesshow.com you can buy adult tickets for £6 (£6.50 on the gate) and £3 for children under 16 (£3.50 on the gate), while children under three are admitted for free.
The website is also open for exhibitors and traders to book space at the Show – although commercial traders will be charged, charities and non-commercial exhibitors can attend for free. All exhibitors are asked to register in advance.
Chris Harvey, chairman of the Show charitable trust, said: “We welcome all members of the family to the Show, although we do ask that dogs are kept on leads. The agility arena will be great fun for owners and pets alike, but non-dog owners will still be able to enjoy a wide range of activities, including displays, demonstrations, emergency vehicle rides and much more.”
