Join the Great Get Together at Stratton fire station

Date: 5th June, 2017

Stratton fire station in Swindon will be holding a community event on Saturday 17 June as part of the Great Get Together.

The Great Get Together is intended as a celebration of local communities, inspired by the memory of murdered MP Jo Cox.

Between 2pm and 5.30pm on 17 June, people can visit the fire station and enjoy a range of entertainment while having a picnic.

Watch Manager Mark Evans, who is organising the event, said: “We want people to come along with a picnic or some nibbles, bring a picnic blanket or even tables and chairs, and enjoy local school choirs, singers and bands. There will be face painting and hair braiding for the children, and hopefully a bouncy castle as well! It’s all completely free, we just want the local community to get together and have a fun afternoon.”

The Great Get Together has been inspired by the MP Jo Cox, who was murdered in her constituency on 16 June last year. The organisers state: “It is an opportunity for us to bring our community together and celebrate all that unites us. Jo Cox lived her life spreading her belief that we have more in common than divides us. In that spirit, her family and friends invite you to mark this anniversary in a positive way by spending time together as a community and having fun.” More information can be found at www.greatgettogether.org

There is still opportunity for entertainers and musicians to get involved with the Stratton fire station event – if you’re a magician, clown, singer, band or provide any other kind of family-friendly entertainment, and you’d like to offer your services, please email [email protected]
