Smoke warning at Swindon fire

Date: 12th July, 2016

People living in the Thornhill Road area of South Marston are tonight (12 July) being recommended to keep doors and windows closed as Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service tackles a large fire.

The Service was called to a derelict 50m x 60m industrial unit – part of the old Crown Timber site – on Thornhill Road at 6.55pm and found a well developed fire. Significant smoke is rising from the scene and this could be an issue for anyone with a pre-existing respiratory problem. Officers from Wiltshire Police are visiting local homes to share this advice with anyone who has concerns.

Four fire engines are in attendance (two from Stratton, one from Swindon and one from Westlea), together with the aerial appliance and the operational support unit, both from Swindon.

Anyone concerned that they may have been affected by the smoke should call NHS 111 or seek other medical advice.
