Fire at derelict Swindon hotel

Date: 27th July, 2016

Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service is currently tackling a significant fire at the derelict Madison Hotel on Oxford Road, Swindon.

Crews were called to the scene at 6pm this evening (27 July) and found a well developed fire in the roof of the large building.

Nine fire crews are in attendance, from Swindon (two), Stratton, Westlea, Chippenham, Malmesbury, Fairford, Cirencester and Faringdon. They are being supported by water carriers from Royal Wootton Bassett and Ramsbury, aerial appliances from Swindon and Gloucester, and an incident command vehicle from Stratton.

Crews from elsewhere in Wiltshire have been mobilised to the Swindon area to maintain fire cover while the incident is on-going.

Five main jets and two water towers are being used to tackle the blaze, and no injuries have been reported.

A fire investigation will start once the blaze is extinguished and the scene is safe.
