Fire Cadets get on their bikes to raise money for ‘Cycling 4 Health’

Date: 13th November, 2017

Swindon Fire Cadets and Cycling 4 Health have joined forces to raise awareness and show how cycling can be for all. A sponsored ‘London to Cardiff race’ will take place on Monday 20 November at the County Ground Athletics track in Swindon between 5pm and 6pm.

Sixteen Fire Cadets and their instructors will attempt the equivalent of the 151 mile trip by cycling round the track in just one hour using a range of two-wheeler and adaptive bikes that are available from Cycling 4 Health.

Watch Manager Mark Evans from Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service, who runs the cadet group, said: “The Cadet scheme only started in September, so it’s great to see these young people really embracing their role in the community and organising a fundraiser for a good local cause. I’m very proud of what they are planning and I hope lots of people will support them with sponsorship!”

The Cycling 4 Health centre was launched in 2010 and forms part of the ‘Disability Sport in Swindon’ Group.

Ben Humphrey, Live Well Manager from Cycling 4 Health, said: “I am very thankful for the Fire Cadets fundraising for our disability cycling projects.  The wonderful inclusive specialist equipment is very expensive, and the clients and instructors are very grateful for the support. I hope the Cadets enjoy the experience and we look forward to working with them again in the future.”

The centre has a variety of adapted cycles to choose from, including hand bikes, trikes with wheelchair carriers, pedal propelled bikes, quad bikes and many more.

The money raised will help provide an adaptive bike/adaptive cycle equipment and repairs.

Why not come along on 20 November to show your support and enjoy the fun of seeing the new Swindon Fire Cadets being put through their paces? A cake stall will also be held on the night to help raise as much money as possible for this worthwhile cause.
