Two awards have been presented for outstanding contributions to Fire Fighters Charity.
Wareham firefighter Brandon Fox won the Individual award, after undertaking a monumental charity challenge last April where he ran five kilometres every hour, on the hour, for 24 consecutive hours.
The physical and mental demands of running five kilometres every hour for 24 hours are difficult to overstate. As each run took longer to complete, his recovery time diminished – at some points, leaving him with only ten to twenty minutes before setting off again.
Despite the significant physical demands, Brandon completed the full 24-hour challenge and raised an outstanding £6,464 for the Charity.
The Team award was won by Swindon fire station, where crews have played a vital role in supporting the Charity over many years.
One of their most consistent and impactful initiatives has been the provision of matchday parking for supporters attending home games at Swindon Town football club, as the County Ground is just over the road from the station.
Firefighters have welcomed thousands of fans through the gates over many seasons, creating a positive, community‑focused presence while raising a significant and enduring stream of charitable income.
Beyond football parking, crews at Swindon regularly organise a variety of fundraising activities, including the annual open day, car washes, and support of the on-site textile recycling banks.
At the DWFRS awards ceremony held in Salisbury on 12 September, GM Wayne Presley received the award on behalf of the Swindon team, with both presentations being made by CFO Andy Cole and the Charity’s regional fundraiser, Nicky Young, who also presented certificates of appreciation.
