Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service has been accepted as a Bronze Award holder under the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme.
The scheme is designed primarily to recognise private sector support although public sector organisations such as the emergency services, local authorities, NHS trusts and executive agencies are also eligible to be recognised.
Employers that pledge, demonstrate or advocate support to defence and the armed forces community, and align their values with the Armed Forces Covenant can be considered for the awards.
Bronze award holders:
- are self-nominated by employers who pledge to support the armed forces, including existing or prospective employees who are members of the community
- must have signed the Armed Forces Covenant
- promote being armed forces-friendly and are open to employing reservists, armed forces veterans (including the wounded, injured and sick), cadet instructors and military spouses/partners
CFO Ben Ansell said: “I am very pleased that the Service now holds this award, and we are already working towards achieving the Silver Award standard. Given the significant military presence in our Service area, especially around Salisbury Plain, this scheme is a good way for us, as an employer, to show our support for our Armed Forces. It also reaffirms our engagement with veterans, reservists and military spouses.”
