Buddy scheme

Open to potential wholetime firefighter applicants from under-represented groups.

Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service is an equal opportunities employer and we are committed to putting equality, diversity and inclusion at the heart of everything we do. We welcome applications from all members of our community.

To support our inclusive approach, we carry out activities to positively attract those from under-represented groups such as women and people from black, Asian and minority ethnic communities and the LGBTQ community.

To provide support to these under-represented groups, we have a Buddy Scheme where we offer you the opportunity to talk to a firefighter from within the Service about the job and answer any last minute queries you might have before the application process begins. Maybe you want to know what life is like as a firefighter? How shift patterns work? or ANY other questions that you might have in relation to becoming a firefighter.

This scheme is only open to applicants who are women, people from black, Asian and minority ethnic communities and the LGBTQ community.

Buddies will not be able to provide you with specific selection information, nor will they be able to provide you with feedback on your performance in the process – they are purely there to provide informal support.

If you are interested in joining the ‘Buddy’ Scheme, please click here to submit your request.
