The role of a firefighter has changed a lot in recent years, with even more emphasis on fire prevention and community education.
Our firefighters are, of course, still required to put out fires when they do occur but they can respond to flooding and water rescue incidents, road traffic collisions, animal rescues and alarm calls.
They are also involved in gathering risk information across their community, providing fire safety advice and helping to educate people about risks and prevention.
You can find out more about the role and current vacancies (when they arise) through this website but key requirements for applicants are:
- You must be at least 18 years old when you join us (you can apply once you are 17½)
- Minimum level 2 (GCSE grade C or equivalent) qualifications in English and Maths
- Good standard of physical fitness
- You must have the right to work in the UK
Please note that we are not recruiting at present for wholetime firefighters.
