SafeWise Weymouth and Weymouth Fire Station throw open the doors!

Date: 29th July, 2016

Weymouth Fire Station and SafeWise Weymouth will be holding an open day extravaganza next Saturday (6th August) between 11am and 3pm, providing a fun, free and informative event for all the family.

Local residents have the opportunity to meet their local fire crews and see some of the methods they use to save lives everyday. The event will include displays of firefighting action such as a real fire demonstration, the DWFRS Technical Rescue team and a road traffic collision demonstration. There will be the opportunity to have a look around the appliances, sign up for a free home safety check and find out what crews at the station get up to a daily basis.

The Weymouth Community Safety Centre, run by SafeWise, will also be open during the event. The public will be able to have a go on a driving simulator, take part in mobility scooter races (whilst learning how to use them safely!) take part in free cookery demonstrations, children can have their face painted and much more! FireWise tours will be running throughout the day, where families can learn about the devastating effect of fire on their home and how to prevent it.

Weymouth Station Commander, Simon Dennett said: “We’re hoping for a really good turnout this year as we have so much going on at the station – it will be a really great weekend day out for all the family. This open day is a great opportunity for residents to come and meet their local fire crew, learn how to protect their homes from fire, and see what activities and incidents we get involved with”.

SafeWise Centre Manager, Vikki Thomas said: “We’re really excited to be holding this joint event with Weymouth fire station. We want to educate our communities to be safer at home and out and about but we also want to have fun and there will be plenty of opportunity for both next Saturday. We look forward to welcoming everyone.”

Firefighters will be on hand to talk about recruitment, fire safety and arrange home fire safety visits where necessary. Home safety visits provide advice about cooking and electrical safety, escape plans, and free smoke alarm checks.

Entrance to the event is free. Weymouth Fire Station can be found on Radipole Lane, Weymouth. All funds raised on the day will go towards SafeWise and the Firefighters Charity
