Premises Fire – Gillingham

Date: 7th August, 2019

Time: 1.40am

Description: At 01:40 hours DWFRS received a call to a premises on High Street, Gillingham which was believed to be on fire. 3 pumps (1 x Gillingham pump and 2 x Shaftesbury pumps) were mobilised along with an aerial and support pump from neighbouring Devon & Somerset FRS and a flexi duty officer. On arrival the crews found the first floor of the building smoke logged and requested 2 further pumps attend (1 x Sturminster Newton and 1 x Mere). An incident command unit from Sherborne was also mobilised to support the incident ground. Crews used 8 breathing apparatus, 2 hose reel jets and 2 main lines to extinguish a fire in a storeroom on the first floor. Ventilation was carried out using 2 breathing apparatus and positive pressure ventilation fan. At 03:20 the incident was scaled down to 3 pumps who are now currently damping down and assisting with fire investigation.
