Description: Firefighters from Amesbury and Salisbury were called to Lyndhurst Road, Amesbury at 1.19pm today (29 July) after a gas main was damaged by a digger. We currently have two crews on scene maintaining a 100m safety cordon. Colleagues from Wiltshire Police are also in attendance supporting with the cordon and engineers from SGN are assessing the incident and working to isolate the supply.
Boscombe Road, Amesbury has been closed at the junction with Mill Green Road and the public are asked to avoid the area.
Update 18:50 - this incident remains ongoing with road closures still in place.
Update 21:00 - We were called to Lyndhurst Road, Amesbury at 1.19pm today (29 July) after a gas main was damaged by a digger. The incident is continuing, we currently have one crew on scene from Amesbury. They are working to maintain a 100m safety cordon and spray suppression on the leak. Colleagues from Wiltshire Police are also in attendance supporting with the cordon and engineers from SGN are working to isolate the supply. Boscombe Road, Amesbury has been closed at the junction with Mill Green Road and the public are asked to avoid the area.
A rest centre has been set up locally, where partner agencies are supporting local residents.
Update 21:10 - SGN have now been able to put a temporary fix into place and residents are able to return to their homes. Thank you to the residents of Amesbury and our partner agencies for their help and support while we resolved this incident.
