Garage fire- Winterbourne Gunner

Date: 14th July, 2019

Time: 12:54am

Description: At 00:54 Fire control took the first of a number of calls to reports of a property that was on fire and spreading rapidly, Two fire engines from Salisbury fire station were mobilised to deal with the incident. During subsequent emergency calls  from members of the public it was found that the fire involved a number of cars and garages so a further 2 appliances and ALP from Andover, Ludgershall and Winchester were mobilised. Fire control stayed on the phone with the caller gathering more information until the crews arrived. During this call it was found that sparks and embers were landing on the roof of a next door thatch property. Due to the risk of the thatch catching alight a further 7 fire engines were mobilised to the house next door, These came from Fordingbridge, Ludgerhsall, StockBridge, Andover, Romsey, Pewsey and Tisbury along with officers.  Thankfully when the first appliance arrived at the incident they were able to confirm that the thatch was not alight and these appliances were stood down and either returned to home station or placed on standby incident to maintain fire cover. In total 10 Appliances plus officers attended the incident and the fire was extinguished using 2 hose reel jets, 1 main line and small tools.
